Peter B. Wright, Principal Clarinetist – Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra
Peter Wright was hired to be the principal clarinet of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra (JSO) in 1975. He attended Jacksonville University where he received his Bachelor of Music Education degree and the Eastman School of Music where he received his Master of Music degree. Further studies toward a Doctorate occurred at Florida State University.
Peter Wright has performed at numerous ClarinetFests, the annual convention of the International Clarinet Association, including New Orleans, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Vancouver, Kansas City, Austin, Los Angeles and Lincoln, Nebraska. He was the coordinator of the ICA’s Orchestra Audition Competition from 2008 to 2011. During the summer of 2010 he performed at the China International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival.
Mr. Wright has performed many concerti with the JSO and in March of 2005 he played the world premiere of “Collateral Damage” by the Serbian American composer Nikola Resanovic with Fabio Mechetti conducting. In January of 2008 he performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, K. 622 on a basset clarinet generously provided by the Buffet Group. Mr. Wright is a Buffet Artist and plays the Tosca Greenline clarinet. He is also a D’Addario Performing Artist.
Peter has an interesting hobby of riding roller coasters around the world. He is a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) and has ridden over 500 coasters in 14 countries.
