Ever wonder about how a mouthpiece is designed? Master mouthpiece craftsman, James Kanter will join us for a lecture on how he designs his mouthpieces. Also, participants will have the opportunity to try these wonderful mouthpieces!

During his over forty years as a clarinetist in Los Angeles he spent the majority of his time working in the Motion Picture andTV recording studios having been a part of nearly 1,500 Motion Picture scores and hundreds of TV shows.
Some of the many composers he’s worked with include John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith, John Debney, James Newton Howard, Randy Newman, James Horner, Mike Post and Alan Silvestri.
His playing is prominently featured on such film scores as “Seabiscuit”, “Benny and Joon”, “As Good as it Gets” and “Nine Months”.
Kanter served on the music department faculties of the University of California, both the Santa Barbara and Irvine campuses and at the California State University, Northridge.
He performed as principal clarinetist with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra (for 23 seasons), the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra and the San Luis Obispo (California) Mozart Festival Orchestra. He was also a chamber musician throughout his career.
Retired since 2007 he continues to handcraft James Kanter clarinet mouthpieces on a limited basis and plays lots of golf.
